Postdoctoral Fellow
Kampmann Lab

Steven Boggess received his Ph.D. from the Department of Chemistry at UC Berkeley in 2019. There, he was a graduate student in Professor Evan Miller’s laboratory synthesizing small molecule fluorophores to optically monitor cell membrane potential.

At UCSF, Dr. Boggess is interested in the genetic factors of neuronal activity and synaptic plasticity in neurodegenerative disease. Synaptic dysfunction has been identified as an important element in many diseases of the central nervous system, including Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Boggess is interested in studying the genetic factors that lead to synaptic dysfunction by combining arrayed genomic screens and functional imaging of neuronal activity.
