Dr. Ramsay received his doctoral and senior medical degrees from Oxford University, where he joined the faculty. He came to UCSF on sabbatical leave in 1973 and moved permanently in 1975. He spent 13 years as Senior Vice Chancellor and moved to Baltimore as President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore, in 1994. He retired from that position in 2010 and returned to UCSF as Professor Emeritus in the Department of Neurology and Associate Director of the IND.
