The IND Postdoctoral Fellows Program is recruiting promising PhD scientists to join the dynamic IND community, which is largely focused on elucidating the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration and using this knowledge to develop effective therapies. Fellows will design a research program under faculty guidance, working with one or more advisers to develop and pursue interdisciplinary work that can launch an innovative, independent career.
Members of the IND faculty conduct research in various areas, including systems neuroscience, structural biology, chemical biology, pharmacology, machine learning and genetics. The IND is also home to a large-scale drug discovery program investigating therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases such as Creutzfeldt–Jakob, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s.
Established in 1999, the IND is directed by Nobel Laureate Stanley B. Prusiner and is housed in the state-of-the-art Sandler Neurosciences Center on the Mission Bay campus of UCSF. Located in San Francisco, UCSF is ranked as one of the top biomedical research institutions in the world and fosters collaboration with the robust biotechnology industry of the Bay Area.
Applicants should prepare a one-page outline of an independent project that would leverage their skills and the resources of the IND to further our overarching goal of treating patients with neurodegenerative diseases.
