Postdoctoral Fellow
Gestwicki Lab

Emma Carroll received her PhD in August 2020 in Prof. Susan Marqusee’s lab at the University of California, Berkeley, Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. Her PhD work focused on the role of ubiquitin in site-specifically modulating a protein’s energy landscape and the downstream biological consequences for regulating proteasomal degradation. Dr. Carroll is fascinated by the role of cellular and environmental factors in modulating protein energetics to tip the scales towards functional vs. pathological outcomes. In the Gestwicki laboratory in the IND, Dr. Carroll hopes to develop tools to understand how such factors modulate tau amyloid conformational ensembles in different neurodegenerative diseases, including the impact of tau posttranslational modifications.
