Rita Marreiros, PhD
Postdoctoral Scholar, Prusiner Lab
Rita Marreiros received her BSc from Biomedical Sciences from University of Algarve, Portugal and her MSc from Cellular and molecular biology with specialization in Neurosciences, from University of Coimbra, Portugal. She received her Doctoral degree of Natural Sciences from University of Duesseldorf, Germany in 2019 under supervision of Prof. Carsten Korth, M.D. Ph.D. Rita’s doctoral work focused on understanding the mechanisms of protein homeostasis dysfunction in chronic brain disorders mainly in neurodegenerative and psychiatric pathologies.
Dr. Marreiros joined the Prusiner Lab in the IND as a postdoctoral scholar in October 2019. Here, she is interested in study the infectivity role of extracellular vesicles associated with different prion strains as Ab and Tau, in neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s disease. She is also interested in characterizing the infectivity role of the different prion strains associated with neurodegenerative disorders in human brain samples.
