Felicia Ooi, PhD

Postdoctoral Scholar, Prusiner Lab

Felicia Ooi received her PhD in biology from the University of Iowa in May 2018 under the supervision of Dr. Veena Prahlad. Dr. Ooi’s graduate research was focused on understanding the mechanisms of neuronal control of a cellular stress response known as the heat shock response.

Dr. Ooi joined the Prusiner Lab in the IND as a postdoctoral scholar in September 2018. Here, she is interested in elucidating the role of stress granules in the cell biology of neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Her current research involves knocking down components of stress granules to determine the effect of each component on the protein aggregation that is a hallmark of neurodegenerative diseases.
