‘Fight for Mike’ inspiration dies at 50
Mike Homer, a hard-driving Silicon Valley executive whose fight with a rare brain-wasting disease inspired a multimillion-dollar campaign to find a cure, died Sunday at his home in Atherton.
He was 50.
After Homer was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease in May 2007, his high-powered friends launched a campaign to raise funds to find a cure. Among them were Intuit Corp. Chairman Bill Campbell, venture capitalist Ron Conway, Netcape co-founder Marc Andreesen and YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley.
His story, "The fight of his life", was featured in the Aug. 24, 2007, issue of the San Francisco Business Times.
